Appendix B. The Greek Spelling of Asterius

We are aware that the Greek spelling of Asterius that appears on the title page ( $A\Sigma TEPIO\Sigma$) is not a perfect transliteration. However, $A\Sigma TEPIO\Sigma$ is spelled the same way the Greeks spelled it. The reason for the discrepancy is that the name ``Asterius'' is latinized. The Romans, who spoke Latin, were not comfortable with words ending in ``os,'' so whenever they transliterated Greek names, they often changed the ``os'' ending to ``us,'' an ending they were more comfortable with.
