Conclusion

Using the beam theory from Reference [3], it is not possible to design a V-22 blade that has optimal twist in both helicopter and propeller modes. However, I have every reason to believe that a more comprehensive beam theory would produce better results. The main problem with the beam theory used here is that it expects thin walls; this is flatly untrue for the spar. In fact, a nonsymmetric ply layup in the spar would contribute greatly to the blade twist. However, the nonsymmetric layup has no effect on the beam model used here. Because of this, I cannot say that the feasibility of a V-22 blade that is optimal for both propeller and helicopter modes has been disproved.
